Fall Classic Game 7 Captures 51M Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extended matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined 51 million viewers in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB stated this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic finale since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest drew 27.33 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the previous finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

International Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12M. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game World Series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete US average reached over 16 million. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million viewers, an 8% rise compared to last year and the network’s best postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
