The highly-awaited second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video soon, and fan speculation has been intense.
Season 1 introduces a large cast of personalities residing in the afterlife, pits them against each other accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and emotional bonds that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 differ greatly, but certain threads recur frequently: Will Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with audience demands as the main goal," the creator commented recently. "However I feel like me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how quickly season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating happens now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about season 2 — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a few fans make a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
